When you need to attend cross-border meetings in Mexico, the jet charter airport in Edinburg is an excellent state-side starting point. South Texas International is 25 miles from the US/Mexican border, and just 10 miles from the city of Edinburg.
The airport has a 5,000-foot asphalt runway, capable of handling charter aircraft up to a 9-seat super mid-size jet. As an international airport, it also has the facilities for border security and customs clearance. It’s a huge time-saver compared to lining up for customs services at a major international hub airport.
Edinburg itself is a friendly community of about 101,000, the second-largest in Hidalgo County. The community was originally named Chapin in 1908, but in 1911, changed it to Edinburg in honor of a local businessman born in Edinburg, Scotland.
Though Texas and Scotland are very different, the two Edinburg cities share a passion for soccer. Edinburg, Texas is home to the Rio Grande Valley Toros, a professional USL team that plays regularly at HEB Park. The city has also developed an acclaimed youth soccer academy, giving south Texas kids a chance to join a team and hone their skills.
