Fort Bridger, Wyoming, now designated by the state as a historic site, was established by Jim Bridger and Louis Vasquez in 1843. Then a fur-trading outpost that served travelers crossing the Oregon Trail, Fort Bridger, Wyoming changed hands in 1850 when it was obtained by Mormons before becoming a military outpost in 1858. Fort Bridger was later declared a Wyoming Historical Landmark and Museum in 1933.
Located in Uinta County, the region is poised to become the business hub of southwestern Wyoming thanks to a tax structure that promotes small businesses and entrepreneurship. Given its advantageous location and the Oregon and California Trails that settlers once used to cross the United States, Uinta County is long known as a place of prosperity within the state. Its recognition only became amplified with the discoveries of coal, oil and natural gas in the region.
In 2020, the U.S. Government counted more than 20,000 people in the county, over 12,000 of which live in the county seat of Evanston.
