The capital of the Dominican Republic, Santo Domingo is the oldest city in the Caribbean known for its cobblestone streets, spired cathedrals, walls and forts. Located on the southern coast of this joint island nation, Santo Domingo was settled in the early 1500s. It was founded by Christopher Columbus's brother, Bartolome Colombus, in 1496, as the first seat of the Spanish colonial empire in the New World. The city’s central neighborhood, Ciudad “Zona” Colonial, declared a world heritage site by UNESCO, features numerous structures that date back to 16th and 17th century, including the defence wall, which was used to keep the British out when they attempted to invade the city in 1655.

You cannot visit Santo Domingo without exploring the history that envelops Zona Colonial. Resting adjacent to the Ozama River, the area features numerous historical landmarks, including the New World’s oldest paved street, Calle Las Damas, as well as well as the Parque Colon, a central square where you can find
the oldest church in the Americas, the Basilica Cathedral of Santa María la Menor, which opened in 1541. The Alcázar de Colón palace, located on the café–lined Plaza España, dates back to 1514 and was built for the son of Christopher Columbus, Diego Colón. Today it serves as an art museum and holds the Caribbean’s most important collection of European artworks. Another popular museum is the Trampoline Children’s Museum, which features interactive displays on science and The Dominican Republic’s ecosystem and culture. Built in 1502, Fortaleza Ozama, located on Calla Las Damas, is the oldest standing fort in the Americas where you can not only learn about local history, but get a great viewpoint of the city. Santo Domingo’s palm tree-lined Malecon waterfront district features modern buildings that house casinos and hotels as well as restaurants and nightclubs, where you can enjoy the local cocktail Mama Juana, made from rum, red wine, and honey, while swaying to the merengue. A sporting nation, enjoy a day of golf at Santo Domingo’s two 18-hole championship courses, Las Lagunas Country Club or Isabel Villas Country Club at Avenida Belice, or catch a baseball game. The Dominican Republic Winter League season runs from October to January and is a great way to see who will become the next David Ortiz, Pedro Martinez, or Sammy Sosa. Those looking for pristine beaches will want to travel a little beyond the city walls. While all-inclusive resorts line the Dominican Republic coastline, there are other options for day trips from the city. Boca Chica, a popular holiday spot located just 25 minutes east of the capital, offers a waveless lagoon protected by a coral reef with a shallow swimming area. You can enjoy lunch or dinner at a number of beachfront restaurants. Further east along the coast is Playa Caribe, a quiet beach on an inlet, and Juan Dolio, a larger beach that is lined with modern condos, boutique hotels and beachfront restaurants and cafés. Pilot did a terrible job of synchronizing the engines. It was bad enough at one point that the two guest passengers were worried we would need an emergency landing. I have flown on Hawkers for 15 years now and never had that experience. Crew was very nice, but the pilot needs some instruction. It was very disconcerting.

We were on a commercial flight from Detroit to Salt Lake City when part way into our flight we got notification from Delta app that our delay was going to cause us to miss our connection. We were on a long weekend for MLK to go skiing in Lake Tahoe. We were going to be rescheduled the following day, thus missing half of our vacation. I had email only, and emailed Garett asking if they had an operator in SLC who could get us to Tahoe that evening. Within 20 minutes he came back with two quotes. By the time we landed he had set up the flight, emailed me the number to the shuttle to get from Delta terminal to the private terminal, and did it all for a great price. To throw things off even more, we were set to fly to Tahoe, but Delta somehow got our bags on the flight to Reno that they said we couldn't make. So at the last minute we changed from Tahoe to Reno for a destination. By the time we took the shuttle to the FBO our flight plan was set and we took off within 10 minutes. It could not have been more seamless. It literally saved our vacation. Time is the most precious resource we have and time with family is even more precious. Our daughter is a senior and this is one of the last trips we'll have with her; it meant a lot, and Stratos savings our vacation, allowing us to create memories, means all that much more. Thank you!!
