Originally called White Sulfur Springs, Searcy was home to a sought-after health spa in the 1820s. The prominent spa featured white sulfur, chalybeate, and alum springs. However, in 1838, the name of the town officially changed to Searcy, to honor Richard Searcy, a prominent Arkansas legislator.

For the anglers in your party, head over to one of the many bodies of water in the area. The Little Red River flows from the JFK Dam and the Greers Ferry National Fish Hatchery into the town of Searcy, making it a prime fishing location and one of the best places in the country to catch trout. Other hotspots to check out include the Searcy City Lake and Lake Barnett.
There are several parks in the area worth exploring too. Berry Hill Park offers 7 acres of greenspace right in the middle of town. Yancy Park, Spring Park, and Riverside Park all provide outdoor enthusiasts with plenty of trails to explore as well.
For a more cultural experience, there are plenty of things to see and do. visit the Rialto Theater in a historic building constructed in the 20s. Don’t worry though, the shows here are modern and inspiring. The Harding University Theater is also home to some amazing performances, and during the summer months, they provide dinners too. And finally, don’t forget to visit the Searcy Art Gallery, also located in a historic home. The exhibits change frequently, so you’re sure to witness some amazing collections.
