Located in Dickson County, Michigan, Iron Mountain was incorporated as a village in 1887. Two years later, it reached city status. The area was known for its iron ore and underground mining was prominent throughout the county. However, by the 1980s, mining operations came to a halt and logging, winter sports and tourism quickly filled the economic void, keeping Iron Mountain rooted in place.
