Few heavy jet charters have earned a more loyal following than the Challenger 605 by Bombardier. When we ask our clients what they like most about these luxury jets, the resounding answer we get is ‘comfort.’ And that counts for a lot when you’re flying in excess of eight hours without stopping! Introduced in 2006, the Challenger 605 is the fifth iteration of the 600 series, which initially began in the 1980s. When compared to its predecessor—the venerable Challenger 604—the 605 features a host of upgrades, including:
- Advanced avionics system
- Larger cabin windows
- More efficient cabin design
While the Challenger 600 series boasts many of the advantages of charter airliners—namely cabin room and long-range capabilities—its operating costs are comparable with much smaller jets. In terms of cost-effective jet charters, the 605 is hard to beat.
Continuing the Legacy of Challenger Jet Charters
Even before the Challenger 605 came about, previous models already had two key advantages over their competitors:
- Widest cabin in its class
- Quietest cabin in the industry
When you combine those two elements, the result is a completely relaxing cabin environment for a truly enjoyable inflight experience. It creates the ideal space for travelers who want to:
- Remain productive while flying
- Kick back and enjoy the inflight entertainment options
- Get a little shuteye en route to their ultimate destination
As mentioned, the Challenger 605 is capable of flying up to 8.5 hours—or up to 4,000 nautical miles—without stopping. Having the ability to stretch your legs and move about the eight-foot-wide, 26-foot-long cabin is invaluable. Taller passengers will equally appreciate the six-foot standing headroom. Whether you conduct business internationally, or you fly abroad for luxury vacations, the Challenger 605 is well suited for transcontinental jet charters. Some example itineraries include:
- Paris to New York
- Geneva to Washington, D.C.
- New York to São Paulo
- Buenos Aires to Miami
It’s also ideal for domestic flights. It can whisk passengers between any two cities within the continental US without stopping. In it’s standard configuration, the Challenger 605 seats 10 passengers, but it can carry as many as 19 when necessary.
A Proven Performer
A pair of General Electric CF34-3B turbofans power the Challenger 605, bringing it to its initial cruise altitude of 37,000 in about 22 minutes. It’s service ceiling is 41,000 feet. And while it may not be the swiftest aircraft in its category, the 605 has a respectable long-range cruise speed of 488 mph. For shorter distances, you can ramp it up to 540 mph. Similarly, the Challenger 605 isn’t a class-leader for runway performance, but it’s certainly above average. At sea level, it requires 5,840 feet of tarmac to get off the ground. More noteworthy, it needs only 2,775 feet to land. Combined with its steep approach capabilities, it’s a solid option for those who require large-cabin jet charters that can negotiate short runways in remote locations. The Challenger is no slouch in the baggage department either. With 115 cubic feet of cargo space, you could bring:
- Eight medium sized suitcases
- Two sets of skis
- Two sets of golf clubs
Overall, the Challenger 605 is a workhorse in the heavy jet class that offers exceptional reliability, wide-body cabin comfort and dependable aircraft technologies.
