5 Can’t-miss International Jet Charter Events this Spring
Spring is a great time to book an international jet charter, and England and France are two of our favorite destinations. You get to avoid the hustle and bustle of peak tourism season while getting your fill of old-world culture. Also, there are numerous notable events going on in spring that will make the journey that much more rewarding.
Grand National – Liverpool, England – April 14
Known as the ‘Ultimate Test of Horse and Rider,’ the Grand National is one of the most prestigious handicap steeplechase events in the world. When you combine its history and lucrative prize money, it’s easy to see why. Held at the Aintree Racecourse near Liverpool, this event has been going on for nearly two centuries and boasts a US$1.5M purse.
Cannes Festival – Cannes, France – May 8-19
The French Riviera is a fabulous place to visit any time of year, but when film industry icons start rolling in for Cannes Festival, this otherwise quaint seaside town generates quite the buzz. Regarded as the world’s most influential film festival, Cannes is where many of the year’s most highly anticipated films are revealed. Of course, many of the celebrities attending this invite-only event arrive on international charter flights, as it allows them to travel in private cabins and gives them a wider range of airports from which to choose.
Roland Garros – Paris, France – May 27-June 10
A Grand Slam tennis tournament named after a famed aviator? Now that sounds like our kind of event. The French Open, named after WWI ace pilot Roland Garros, who also happened to be a tennis buff, is the second of four Grand Slams (you’ll be reading about the third one shortly) and the only one to be held on clay courts.
Wimbledon – London, England – July 2-15
With all due respect to the Australian, French and US Opens, nothing quite compares to charm, intrigue and tradition of Wimbledon. Whether it’s the storied grass courts at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, the all-white attire that the athletes are required to wear, or the scrumptious strawberries and cream, this event is unlike any other.
24 Hours of Le Mans – Le Mans, France – June 16-17
Diehard race fans are well aware of the Triple Crown of Motorsport, which consists of:
- Monaco Grand Prix
- Indianapolis 500
- 24 Hours of Le Mans
Each event is as distinct as the city in which it’s hosted, which explains why only one driver has ever accomplished the feat (Britain’s Graham Hill completed the hat trick after winning Le Mans in 1972). Le Mans requires a level of focus, endurance and efficiency that few racers possess, making it a challenging event to finish, let alone win.
