Geographically, Modesto lies in the heart of California. In the late 1860s, the ‘big four’ announced plans to build a railroad through the San Joaquin Valley to connect north and south California. When the project fell through, the land surrounding Modesto was parceled and sold; however, the original layout for the town is still noticeable along its perpendicular streets and lettered streets in the 640-acre downtown tract.
No matter what time of year you soar into the jet charter airport in Modesto, California, you’re sure to find something to do. The Gallo Center for Arts is home to some of the most amazing live performances in the state, with shows running year round. Music lovers will no doubt enjoy the Modesto music scene. With a vibrant music culture, you can catch a show nearly any night of the week. And from March through September, every Friday live shows dominate the 10th street plaza downtown.
There are also plenty of murals to see in Modesto. From the downtown alleys to the hiking trails in West Modesto, there are so many murals to see and admire. The Third Thursday Art Walk, which takes place every month, also features some amazing local artists. For something indoors, we recommend the Mistlin Gallery which hosts new monthly exhibits worth exploring.
Besides setting up along the shores of the Pacific, there are so many other ways to enjoy the great California outdoors. From ATV trails to golf courses to hunting to paddleboarding there are so many ways to spend your time outside.
