You know the fishing has to be good if the American Fishing Tour National Championship is held on the lake. Mecklenburg County can boast just that, and has the largemouth bass to back it up. Kerr Lake offers idyllic views as well as a bounty of fish waiting to be caught and enjoyed over a campfire.
Mecklenburg County is composed of half a dozen unique towns that make up the greater county. Each town has something unique to offer visitors.
Located on the lake, Clarksville is ideally for outdoor enthusiasts looking to fish, boat and hike. Boydton showcases a Victorian style historic district while Brodnax is uniquely located half in Mecklenburg, and half in Brunswick County. Pristine golf courses and regular public live music await those that visit Chase City. The Rosemont of Virginia Winery welcomes guests to La Crosse, and South Hill has a farmer’s market to rival all markets.
Area tours are available over a few days for shopping or lake enthusiasts, but the most popular tour is a Taste of Mecklenburg. A combined site-seeing and culinary tour, the Taste of Mecklenburg will leave visitors wanting more, and with a new favourite restaurant or two. Risin’ Smoke BBQ, The Donut Shop and Furr’s Deli and Dogs are all included in the tour. While their names don’t leave much to the imagination, their food certainly does. Tangy brisket, sweet bourbon maple donuts and alligator tails (yes, really) are all must-tries.
A jet charter airport in Mecklenburg gives visitors easy access to a variety of charming small towns, each with a special flair.
