Powered by two 249kN (56,000lb) Pratt & Whitney PW4000 series turbofans, the Airbus A310-300 maintains an impressive cruising speed of 528 mph. Wide-body Comfort
Launched in 1983, the Airbus A300 series is a development of the popular A300. It came at a time when airliners were looking for a more economical option. As a result, Airbus made several key alterations to the airframe:
- Shortened the fuselage of the 266-seat A300
- Made it both more economical to maintain and repair
- Made it lighter, giving it enhanced performance capabilities
However, the A310-300 still maintained the wide-body fuselage width of the A300: 220 inches, which is best in its class. Using a two-class layout he aircraft typically accommodates 20 passengers in a first-class environment, and 200 in standard. In a single-class arrangement, it can hold up to 265 passengers (nine abreast per row). Additionally, to serve passengers during a trip, the aircraft also features a:
- Galley
- Fully enclosed lavatory
- Overhead storage bins
- Draft-free air conditioning
- Tri-zone temperature control
To cater to as wide a market as possible, Airbus also created a convertible passenger/cargo version of the A310-300. This allows the seats to be removed so you can use the main deck for freight. There’s also a dedicated freight version of this aircraft, too. By combining this type of flexibility with its impressive range, the A310-300 can be customized to suit the market needs of almost any client, whether it’s a group charter flight or cargo transport. While the original A310 began in the early 1980s, the -300 variant didn’t reach the market until 1986. To achieve is 1,600-nm range increase, Airbus outfitted this model with more powerful engines and made several key improvements to its aerodynamics. These include:
- Active centre-of-gravity control system
- Trim-tank fuel tanks
- Wingtip fences
These improvements also gave the A310-300 a higher payload (82,216 pounds) and MTOW (361,577 pounds).
