It would be remiss to visit Alexandria without seeing some of its historic sites and attractions. Located in the country just outside of Alexandria is the Mount Vernon Estate, the family plantation of George Washington, where the first US president lived with his wife Martha. Visitors can take a guided
tour of the estate and walk in Washington’s footsteps. Lined with boutiques and specialty shops, King Street is where you can also visit the Gadsby's Tavern, where the founding fathers once dined. It is now a museum featuring old photographs and artifacts. Those familiar with the PBS TV show Mercy Street will want to check out the restored mansion, former hospital and gardens of Carlyle House Historic Park, which was the inspiration for the Civil War set series. We decided at the last minute to escape from Florida as hurricane Irma was bearing down on us, and Stratos came through for us. Despite our first choice airport running out of fuel, they managed to get some at another and we got out with about 1 hour to spare. It was a hectic time, with everyone else scrambling to escape, but Stratos made the whole experience simple and efficient for us. We will definitely fly with them another time, preferable when we're not all stressed about a hurricane aimed right at us!

Eastern Air Services (crew and plane) were wonderful. Stratos micro obsession with baggage and weights was beyond logical and anything that I had ever experienced in prior charters. Turned out there was PLENTY of room in cargo for additional baggage and that my guests were no where near any weight limitation. The only reason I tolerated the craziness was the price differential. Everything was lovely, no hiccups. One piece of advice, when travelling to Turks and Caicos, make sure you have a clear address for your destination. The customs officer held us for twenty-five minutes trying to figure out where we were staying. That was a little frustrating, but it all worked out. We will most definitely use Stratos for our next trip.
